Creating a Children’s Picture Book: An Introduction
What does it take to create a successful children’s picture book? In this class we will examine the most important elements for writing, illustrating and getting your children’s book idea published in today’s competitive market. In addition, there is much involved in creating a memorable picture book character. We will examine how to develop a character in your story that children of all ages will love and ask: “When is his/her next book coming out?”
Please bring to class your favorite picture book to discuss along with 1-3 ideas that you think have publishing potential. Students who take this zoom class may also like to sign up for the five- week workshop- where your manuscript will be published into a hardbound book.

Creating A Children’s Picture Book Workshop: Now Let’s Publish!
Take your idea from the intro Zoom class to the next level. Learn basic writing , design and drawing skills needed to create a library-quality book. This class will provide detailed instruction on how to craft a beginning, middle and ending to your story idea that your family and friends will love. Each student will produce his own professionally typeset and bound hardcover book (included in the price of the class).

Come Alive Advanced Coloring
This is no ordinary colored pencil coloring class! Learn advanced coloring techniques like controlled scribble and 3-D color hatching. Once you have finished coloring specially designed pages, augmented reality software will be applied so your art images will dance off the page and float in the air! Students will receive a special materials package one week before class. Please bring an assortment of your favorite colored pencils. Make sure you see the video here so you get an idea of what you will create. It’s fun and easy to do.

The Augmented Reality Kea Bird
Using colored pencils and a 3-D coloring technique, I colored this Kea bird, worm and plant. Then the drawing was processed in an augmented reality platform. The result:
The bird walked off the page and chased the worm around my room. Your colored drawings will come alive in this class, too!
